Young Leaders are a vital, and often underappreciated, part of the leadership. We decided to run a camp for the Young Leaders in Wolsey District in order to thank them for all the hard work they do, and the sacrifices they make, as well as to give them the opportunity to experience the wider world of scouting outside of their group, meeting fellow Young Leaders from throughout the District. As this was their camp it was only right that they shaped it. Five Young Leaders gathered around the meeting table at the 36thIpswich. Shannon, a YL at the 36th, had expressed an interest in catering, and had created a camp menu which she brought along. A few tweaks to adapt to our cooking facilities and we had a menu. As for activities, I brought up a list of everything Hallowtree had to offer, and a discussion was had. In the end we decided on Crate Stacking, Laser tag, an activity provided to Hallowtree by the Wolsey Cub Council, and a walk along the Orwell on Sunday morning.  - Go online for the full report ...

In June 1st Claydon Scout Group took ownership of a new marquee tent, as the old one needed to be replaced after many years’ service at scout and family camps. The Group won a Locality Grant from Mid Suffolk Council, sponsored by local Councillor, John Whitehead. The Grant was for £1,350. Terry Sutton, Group Scout Leader said “this was a very generous donation to the group and ensures that we can continue to provide an all-round activity programme for the boys and girls of Claydon, Barham, Great and Little Blakenham.” The group will be using the tent at their 70th Anniversary Family Camp in July for its first outing and hopefully many more years after.

I realise that most sections are finishing soon for the summer break but I thought it would be useful to let Young Leaders know the date for the training modules for the session starting in September. Mod A (Compulsory Module) Wednesday 12th September 32nd Ipswich HQs Stoke Park Drive 7 - 9pm All the other Modules will take place at Bramford Scout and Guide HQs 7 - 9pm Please ask your YLs to book in with me if they intend coming to any of the above. Numbers for the First Response Course are limited -in the first instance precedence will be given to those nearing completion of their Award. I attach an In Touch form for the Mod A course and also for the other courses. For those returning to training in September please ask them to bring with them a completed form so my records are up to date. Do please get in touch if you or your Young Leaders have any queries.
